We cater for all levels of fitness. You do not to be super fit to begin training. As long as you can move about okay, and have no health conditions which prevent you training, you will be fine.
We have had people of all backgrounds and ages training with us ranging from teenagers to old age pensioners. The focus of the training is developing your ability to protect yourself, rather than being an athlete. Although we do recommend a good level of fitness for health, longevity and to fully reach your potential, fitness is not the primary focus of our training.
For those wishing to focus on their fitness levels we can advise you on this and develop an adapted training program for you
Yes. Training is suitable for men and women.
We also run private lessons, group workshops and courses geared specifically towards women's self-protection.
Whilst the personal safety principles and physical techniques are the same for men and women, the types of assault and the nature of such attacks experienced by women are statistically different to those experienced by men. Consequently a women's workshop will reflect those differences in the proportion of time dedicated to dealing with specific scenarios.
This is not a martial art, nor a sport.
We teach principles and physical methods to keep you safe rather than basing it around a tradition or sport. Think of self-protection as a set of life skills and techniques which will complete a task in the most efficient way possible, whether that job is talking an aggressor down, avoiding and escaping danger or using physical actions to incapacitate an attacker. We have a huge amount of respect for traditions and those who engage in the tough world of combat sports, and yes you will see some similar movements in different martial arts or combat sports....but our priority is pure functionality and effectiveness rather than winning a championship or adhering to a tradition.
