About Self-Protection Strategies

REALISTIC Self-Defence Classes in and around London and Surrey

Empower yourself with the  mindset, skills and capability to protect yourself from violence, no matter your level of experience, fitness or motivation.

The curriculum consists of :

  • The physical elements of self-protection, i.e. simple techniques, easy to recall under pressure and proven to work in real situations.
  • Non-physical skills, i.e. personal safety skills such as awareness, body language,  verbal de-escalation, avoidance and escape.

We teach our students to be aware, mindful, confident, and to use their physical skills only as a last resort.

What is self-protection?

You'll find the term 'self-defence'  on this site simply because people know roughly what it means...and search engines understand the term. However a more accurate description is self-protection.

Traditional self-defence classes  emphasize what to do once you are already under attack (sometimes in an unrealistic manner),  which gives the attacker the initiative and puts you as the 'defender' on the back foot, which is not a position you want to be in.

Self-protection gives you the initiative and aims to prevent the attack from happening in the first place, or to end it physically if de-escalation and escape are no longer an option.  It looks at prevention as well as effective solutions.

Self-protection answers the following questions:

  • How can physical violence be prevented?
  • What can you do to to lower the chances of being attacked?
  • What is the modus operandi of those who commit assaults and related offences ?
  • How can you de-escalate a situation, using verbal and body language, so that it doesn't become physical?
  • What effects do fear and adrenaline have on your mind and body before, during and after an altercation?
  • How can you use physical force legally?
  • What physical methods have the highest chance of success and have been proven effective in real life?
  • How can all these elements be appropriately trained and instilled in a realistic and safe manner for the average person?

With all the above questions in mind, we teach only what you need to keep yourself safe, providing you with a proverbial 'toolbox' of non-physical and physical techniques forming a set of valuable life-skills which are there if ever you need them.
